陈建功与高中数学教科书的编撰

Kien-Kwong Chen and the Compilation of Mathematical Textbooks for Senior Middle Schools

20世纪30年代,陈建功分别与毛路真、郦福绵编撰了《高中代数学》和《高中几何学》。这两本教科书参照1932年颁布的《高级中学算学课程标准》,主要选取流行的美、英等国数学教材内容编撰。《高中代数学》大量内容取材于《范氏大代数》,以及霍尔、奈特合著的《大代数》。《高中几何学》多取材于史密斯修订的温德华士《平面和立体几何学》,以及舒塞司、塞未诺克合著,斯凯勒修订的《平面和立体几何学》。但这两本教科书并非简单照搬或拼凑之作,在篇章结构和某些章节内容安排上与所取材的教材差异较大,并均具特色。出版之后,都再版十余次。它们的编撰是国人通过向国外数学教材取材,打造适合新课程标准的高中数学教科书的一次成功尝试,促进了近代中国高中数学教科书的本土化。

In the 1930s, Kien-Kwong Chen compiled Algebra for Senior Middle Schools and Geometry for Senior Middle Schools with Mao Luzhen and Li Fumian. The two textbooks were compiled according to The Mathematical Curriculum Standards for Senior Middle Schools promulgated in 1932. Their contents mainly originated from popular American and British mathematical textbooks. A great amount of the content of Algebra for Senior Middle Schools was chosen from A College Algebra written by Henry Burchard Fine, and Higher Algebra written by H. S. Hall and S. R. Knight. A lot of the content of Geometry for Senior Middle School was chosen from two textbooks of the same title, Plane and Solid Geometry. One was written by George Albert Wentworth and revised by David Eugene Smith. The other was written by Arthur Sehultze and Frank L. Sevenoak, revised by Elmer Schuyler. However, both Chen＇s textbooks didn＇t indiscriminately imitate or simply patch together content from other works. There are great differences in the textual structure and content arrangement of some chapters between Chen＇s works and the textbooks mentioned above. Also, both Chen＇s textbooks have their own characteristics, and were reprinted more than ten times. The compilation of Chen＇s textbooks was a successful attempt to create mathematical textbooks for senior middle schools suitable for the new curriculum standard through choosing materials from foreign textbooks. It promoted the localization of mathematical textbooks for senior middle schools in modern China.
