The Concept of Culture from Steven Greenblatt and the Contemporary Cultural Studies

史蒂芬·格林布拉特将文化视为内部相互关联的"复合总体",具有强制性与流动性的特征,这是一种单一时间维度基础上的系统论观念。通过对格林布拉特对文化的使用方式进行考察,从维特根斯坦"家族相似"的理论范式出发,将文化的概念从系统论范式转化为方法论范式,把文化视为一个保留了差异性与不协调性的多元共同体,而非一个实体性概念,并试图针对当前文化研究的实践困境,提出一种多元的文化解释方法。

Steven Greenblatt thinks that culture is a a complex whol e , in which the elements correlate with each other, with the characteristics of constraint and mobility. That is the concept of system based on a single temporal dimension. By observing the use of culture from Steven Greenblatt, with the theoretical paradigm of “family resemblance” from Ludwig Wittgenstein, the concept of culture will be transformed from the systematic paradigm into methodological paradigm, and culture will be seen as a community which preserves the differences and inharmonies, not as a substantive concept. A multi-cultural interpretation will be proposed for the obstacles of practice faced by the cultural studies today.
