城市公示语英译的问题与翻译策略探究——以桂林市公示语为例

Problems of the Public Signs' English Translation and the Exploration of Their Translation Strategies:Taking Public Signs in Guilin as Examples

公示语翻译对于城市的国际化宣传及城市形象的提升有很大的帮助,然而桂林作为著名的国际旅游城市,目前其公示语英译仍存在一定的问题,主要有拼写错误、语法错误、用词不当、机械翻译等,本文针对以上问题提出了相应的翻译对策,以期促进桂林公示语翻译进一步规范。

The English translation of public signs is of great help to promote the publicity over a city and enhance its image. Guilin is a well-known tourist city around the world. However, there still exist a multitude of translation problems in its public signs, including spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, the improper use of words and word-by-word translation, etc. In this essay, the corresponding translation strategies are put forward for the above problems so as to hopefully improve the translation quality of public signs in Guilin.
