Boris Vian, an anti-war peace-loving French poet of the 20th century, wrote poetry to condemn the cruelty and absurdity of wars that he witnessed. Among his writings, the anti-war poem "Le Ddserteur" was the most representative and influential one. The poem depicts the miseries of a soldier and his family during wartime. This paper examines the writer's harrowing experience and ideological development with the aim of exploring the background, meaning, style and influence of his poetry. It is hoped that the discussion will reveal Vian's deep concern for the survival crisis of human beings.
