From 2012 to 2013, Wuxi Municipal Institute of Cultural Heritage Protection and Archaeolo- gy conducted investigations and excavations on the Wu family tombs dating to the late Tang Dynasty located in Xushanwan, Hclv, Hudai, Binghu, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. The excavation unearthed eight tombs in total, all of which are boat-shaped tombs with brick chambers and have been well preserved. The unearthed burial objects include pottery wares, coins as well as bricks with "tomb of the Wu" (wumu) inscriptions and epi- taphs with clearly specified date. With special shape and clear dating, these tombs may provide new evi- dence for the classification criteria of brick-chambered boat-shaped tombs. Meanwhile, they help to bring forward the time period when the Wu family moved back to Wuxi from the Southern Song to the late Tang, which is of great significance to the study of the Wu family' s migration history and the prefectures where the Wu family thrived in the Tang dynasty.
