龟兹石窟的佛学内涵,即龟兹佛教的思想特质与属性尚未得到真正的揭示。义净对印度说一切有部之戒律、制度、仪轨的记载,是揭示龟兹佛教属性与特点的十分宝贵的间接资料,尤其是玄奘、义净携回的毗昙经典与根本说一切有部律典,成为当今研究龟兹佛教最重要的宝典。玄奘、义净所译诸典,具有7世纪印度说一切有部流行典籍的时代特征,也是龟兹佛教和石窟的最鲜活的背景资料。

The Buddhist significance of Qiuci grottoes,that is,the features and characteristics of QiuclBuddhism,has not been fully revealed. Yijing＇s records of commandments, institutions and rituals of IndianOverall Being Section are very important indirect resources. The Abhidharma scriptures and FundamentalOverall Being Section brought by Xuanzang and Yijing are the most important canons in studying QiuciBuddhism. Their translations have the time characteristics of those classics in the 7th century and they arethe ＂living＂ background resources of Qiuci Buddhism and Qiuci Grottoes.
