自译中的变译——以《小评论:林语堂双语文集》为个案

Translation Variation in Self-translation: A Case Study of The Little Critic: The Bilingual Essays of Lin Yutang

林语堂在自译中,未拘泥于原文结构和行文模式,而是针对原文与译文不同的预期读者,采用变译方法,用目的语对原文进行二次阐述。从林语堂的自译效果看,"忠实性"与"创造性"可以并行不悖,忠实是再创造的基础,再创造是忠实的表现手段。

The concept of ＂translation＂ in the Theory of Translation Variation inspires us to re-examine Lin Yutang＇s self- translation. By analyzing the examples from The Little Critic： The Bilingual Essays of Lin Yutang, the author rethinks of faithfulness and creativity of translation. It is found that Lin, in the process of self-translation, isn＇t restricted to the original structure and text mode, but adopts the methods of translation variation, using the target language to re-interpret the original according to different target readers. The author holds that the effect of Lin＇s self-translation proves that ＂faithfulness＂ isn＇t in conflict with ＂creativity＂, and that faithfulness is the basis of re-creation, and re-creation is the way of expression of faithfulness.
