Research on Rural Households' Gift Spending in China:Based on Double Perspectives of Both Income Inequality and Social Status

摘要 使用中国家庭追踪调查数据,首次基于收入不平等和社会地位寻求的双重视角,使用Tobit模型对消费持续低迷背景下农户人情支出不断攀升的现象进行了研究,实证分析结果表明:(1)农户自家婚丧嫁娶花费是一种地位性支出,然而农户的人情支出并非地位性支出,更多体现了"随大流"的从众心理;(2)收入差距扩大通过婚丧嫁娶攀比对农户人情支出的拉动作用远远大于收入不平等产生的抑制作用;(3)家庭求人帮忙的事情越多,人情支出也越多。 Using data from China family panel studies, based on double perspectives of both income inequality and social status firstly, this paper researches on this phenomenon that rural households' gift spending has continued to rise as household consumption has been sluggish. The empirical results show that: (1) rural householdsr expenditures in weddings and funerals have status character, while gift spending embodies more herd mentality, not positional character; (2) the force that income gap of farmers drive on gift spending through comparisons of expenditure in weddings and marriage, is far greater than the inhibition of income inequality; (3) the more help a family ask for , the more spending on gift.
