The ＂Wuling ethnic area＂ is an ac- ademic term related to the concept of a regional ethnology proposed at the beginning of the 21st cen- tury by Li Shaoming, a well-known Chinese eth- nologist. The li shaoming miazuxue wenxuan （Selected Works on Ethnology by Li Shaoming ） [ here- after Selected Works ] was published by the Cheng- du Press at the end of 20＇h century. This book in- cludes 58 articles selected from more than 150 arti- cles written by Li Shaoming from the years 1963 to 1994. The contents of the articles include ethno- logical theory ; the social character of the Liangsha- nYi; the history of the Yi; the social histories of the Qiang, of the Tibetans, and of the Tujia; the ethnic origins of ancient ethnic groups and their re- lated burial forms ; ethnic identification, etc. This book generally reflects the author＇s research result on these topics since the 1950s. By combing it with Li Shaoming＇s ethnological research and relat- ed academic activities, this publication can be re- garded as an important summary of Li Shaoming＇s academic research before the formation of his core concept of a regional anthropology/ethnology.
