中国古代未能产生一个与时间化叙事密切相关的口头传统,原初神话的空间化特征因为史巫同源的关系影响到历史叙事进而小说叙事。道德性观念是中国古代主导性的叙事观念,推动了历史叙事和小说叙事空间化特征的发展。文学性叙事观念则使唐传奇小说发展出时间化叙事。相对于浦安迪强调的"原型"影响,叙事观念对中国古代小说叙事特征的形成具有重要的作用。
