In the description of war against Japan in Asia-Pacific region during World War II in Australian high school history textbooks, the main story is not Chinese resistance to Japan, but the war against Japan by U.S.A and Australia. And also the history of Chinese anti-Japanese war is described as a history of Chinese retreat and Chinese suffering from losing territory, not as a history of Chinese fighting against Japanese invasion. Thus,China as a resistant power in the anti-Japanese war was absent from the narrative of WWII in the textbooks. Also in Australian textbooks, the Rape of Nanjing, though it is mentioned in many textbooks,is not narrated as much as the Holocaust, and even as an historical event it is less important than the dropping of atomic bombs.Such historical construction, with its west-centric perspective,is not helpful for Australian high school students to learn Chinese history objectively and to form a proper view of China.
