The Eco-cultural Value of Chinese Folk Tales of “Animals and Humans”

传统社会人民大众通过"识鸟言兽语的人"类型的民间故事表现他们对自然界的理解和认识,表达他们加强与大自然交流,并进一步了解大自然的理想与愿望;而"动物报恩"故事构想了一个人与动物互助互惠、和谐相处的理想世界。其中所表现的思想观念在故事的长期传播或流传中,自然会对民众的心理产生潜移默化的影响。从而使他们对大自然产生敬畏,影响他们对待各种动物的态度,发挥生态保护的作用。

In traditional society the general public understands and recognizes nature, expresses its strong desire of communicating with and understanding nature through the folk tales of ＂humans knowing birds and beasts＇ language＂. The tales of ＂kindness returned by animals＂ envisage an ideal world of reciprocal benefits and harmony between humans and animals, whose ideas and notions would exert a formative effect on the mentality of the general public so that the latter would respect animals and actively protect ecology.
