Due to its unique geographic position, during the period from 1930' s to the beginning of World War II, Poland was entangled in the diplomatic maelstrom among surrounding countries. To defend the independ- ence and territorial integrity of Poland, Joseph Beck took charge of Polish diplomatic affairs during this period. But his diplomatic policy was much-criticized and he was imprisoned because Poland was finally occupied by Nazi Ger- many. In fact the diplomatic policy of Joseph Beck was closely linked with Poland' s destiny at that time. Poland' s diplomatic stance to Germany, Soviet Union and other countries, organizing resistance or merely hoping for the best, such circumstances decided that Joseph Beck was in a helpless position and couldn' t escape the prospect of failure.
