培养一流人才是一流大学的本分

大学的根本使命是人才培养,学校的中心工作是教育教学,教师的第一责任是教书育人。首先论述了培养一流人才是一流大学的本分和本然价值,提出了建设世界一流大学最为迫切的就是要将大学的办学理念和职能定位回归到人才培养的本分上来。其次,深入剖析了当前大学普遍存在的重科研轻教学、重专业轻通识、重术轻道、把"育人"径直等同于"育才",以及大学被各种排行榜"绑架"等价值迷失和异化,明确指出一流本科教育是建设世界一流大学的基石。最后,介绍了西南交通大学在重构本科教学质量保障体系中的探索与实践。

Universities are established to develop talents, and their key role is to educate and teach young adults, The facuhy＇s priority is to impart knowledge to the students and shape them into righteous people. The author thinks the obligation and values of world-class universities and propose that developing first-class talents is the obligation of world-class universities. In terms of operation philosophy and designation of duties, the universities should hold fast to their mission of talent cultivation to develop themselves to be world-class ones. However, some unfavourable phenomena prevail in many universities. Priority is given to researches instead of teaching, to professional knowledge instead of liberal studies, and to techniques instead of doctrines. Many equal ＂shaping the righteous＂ to ＂developing professional knowledge＂, and the basic values are missing and alienated when the universities are absorbed in and ＂kidnapped＂ by different kinds of rankings. The author points out explicitly that the cornerstone in developing world-class universities is to offer first-class undergraduate programmes and introduce Southwest Jiaotong University＇s exploration and practice in the restructuring of quality assurance system for its undergraduate programmes.
