摘要1976年英国学者MadeleycR等使用电镜首次在人粪便标本中观察到直径约30nm的猫杯状病毒样颗粒，呈“大卫”星（star of David）状。此后其他研究者也有类似的发现。1979年Chiba S等对日本札幌市的一起急性胃肠炎暴发疫情进行调查，在患者粪便标本中也发现类似的病毒颗粒，实验室检测结果和流行病学证据证实了该病毒在人急性胃肠炎中的致病作用。
