从功能翻译理论看短篇小说中排比修辞的翻译——以《海的梦》英译为例

Translations of Parallel Structure in Short Stories from Chinese to English in the Perspective of Functional Translation Theory:As Shown in the Translation of The Sea Dream

以功能翻译理论为切入点,选取王蒙短篇小说《海的梦》英译版中排比修辞译文进行案例分析。研究发现,为了更好地实现短篇小说的表情和渲染功能,对于结构清晰、分句数量较少的排比句,应多采用直译的方法;对于包含多个排比结构、分句短且数量多的长排比句,应多采用意译的方法对其重组后进行翻译。

This paper makes Functional Translation Theory as a entry point, focused on the analysis of the translation of parallel structure in Wang Meng＇s short story The Sea Dream. And the result shows that to better realize the affective function of rendering the atmosphere, two ways are used most frequently in the translation of parallel structure in short stories. On one hand, literal translation is often used when the parallel structure has a small number of typical long sub-clauses. On the other hand, free translation is preferred when the parallel structure is not typical enough with many short sub-clauses, which implies that these short sub- clauses can be rearranged into a new sentence conveying the same meaning.
