Wei Guangtao and Yunnan New Deal in Late Qing Dynasty

魏光焘主政云南之际,正是清政府实行清末新政的重要时期。针对云南偏远、落后之状,魏光焘在任内采用设置课吏馆、编练新军、派遣留学生和创办新式学堂等举措,大力推行云南新政。尽管未能挽救清王朝灭亡的命运,但或多或少地推动了云南地区的近代化进程。

When Wei Guangtao was in charge of Yunnan, it was an important period for the Qing government to hold new deal in late Qing Dynasty.Considering about Yunnan＇s remote, backward situation, President Wei Guangtao, by setting the officer school, to train a new army, sending students abroad and establishing new schools and other initiatives, held the Yunnan new deal, to conform to the aim of court that, make the country rich and its military force efficient. Although it can not change the fate of Qing Dynasty, but more or less promote the process of modernization in Yunnan.
