According to species trace points and 12 environmental factors, the MAXENT model was ap- plied to assess the habitat suitability for the giant panda in Tangjiahe Nature Reserve and the results showed that the giant panda prefer the needle forest, and also needle and broad leaf mixed forest with a high elevation (2 000-2 800 m) near a river and far away from human activity. The unsuitable, suitable and the most suitable habitat areas were 56, 148 and 196 km^2, accounting for 14%, 37% and 50% of the total area of the reserve, respectively. For better protection of the giant panda, the suitable habitat protec- tion must be strengthed, the connectivity improved, suitable habitat expanded and human disturbance con- trolled.
