This paper introduces the development trend and theoretical ground of a new model of the design for ageing,i.e.the university-based retirement community （UBRC）.It uses several best examples of the UBRC in the United States to explain various models of the UBRC,and provides in-depth analyses on the relationships between the UBRC and universities,the operational and management models,community facilities and architectural layout,etc.,discussing the feasibility of applying this model in China.
