On the Three Causes to Form Judging of Ugliness in Western Modern Art

西方艺术发展到现代 ,审丑的趋向异峰突起 ,成为艺术表现的核心。然而面对现代艺术的审丑 ,人们往往把其归因于西方资产阶级腐朽堕落与趣味低下。这种过于简化的认识未能深刻地揭示审丑现象。事实上 ,现代艺术走向审丑有其复杂而深刻的原因 ,只有真正了解其成因 ,才能客观辩证地审丑。概括地说 ,西方现代艺术审丑有三重成因 ,即文明异化的显影 ,哲学转向的熏染和艺术内求的裂变。

As the Western art has developed in modern times, the inclination of judging ugliness seems like a new phenomenon to emerge. Ugliness becomes the core of artistic statement, however, judging ugliness in Western modern art has been regarded as the degeneration and decayed taste of Western bourgeoisie. This utmost simplified recognition did not reveal the phenomenon of judging ugliness. In fact, the origin of judging ugliness in Western modern art is complex and profound. Only when we get a clear idea of its origin can we judge ugliness objectively and dialectically. Briefly speaking, there are three causes of formation, namely developing of cultural alienation, influence of philosophically changing direction and the fission of artistic internal requirement.
