方文是明清易代之际的重要诗人。作为明代遗民,方文的诗歌展现出浓厚的遗民情怀,而其诗歌的主要内容,除了遗民悲思外,就是吟唱自己的生平遭际,并借此展现广阔的社会生活。方文的诗歌受汉魏乐府诗影响明显,又着意模仿杜甫和白居易,由此形成了语言平实、长于叙事的艺术特征。而浸淫于明清两代不同的诗歌风潮中,方文的诗歌风格正切中了时代的旋律,形成了既抒发性灵之真,又不空谈心性;既求学问之实,又不徒耗精力于诗律的雕琢这样一种独特的艺术风貌。

Fang Wen is an important poet in the period between Ming and Qing Dynasty. The content of his poetry is on his own experience, his poem often shows strong feeling of a man who had been living cross two dynasties. The style of his poetry is plain with unadorned words and unique narration which also contribute to his writing. The special period he lived made his poetry have particular features.
