Traditional Marital/Family Crisis and Countermeasures in the Era of Globalization

在全球化和现代化背景下,大部分经济活动发生在家庭以外,个体不必依托家庭生存发展,家庭养育子女的功能大幅弱化,因而传统意义上的婚姻家庭发生了重大变化。婚姻的瓦解造成妇女、儿童的贫困,使现代人无法通过家庭建立对他人和环境的心理支持,从而影响下一代的成长,诱发了具有实际危害性的不满文化。解决由此带来的问题,不仅要建立福利系统、倡导婚姻承诺、复兴传统文化,还要提供心理保健和受教育机会等非经济支持,更须通过文化改造,消除性别歧视,传播积极的现代婚姻家庭观念。

Under the background of globalization and modernization, most of economic activities take place outside the family, so individuals do not need to rely on their families for survival and development. The function of the family in parenting is significantly weakened, so the traditional marriage and family have undergone dramatic changes. The collapse of marriage has caused the poverty of women and children, so that modem people cannot offer psychological support in the form of family, which will affect the growth of the next generation, and lead to a discontent culture with substantial harms. To solve the problems caused by this phenomenon, we must not only establish welfare system, advocate marital commitments, revive traditional culture, but also provide non-economic support such as mental health and educational opportunities. Furthermore, we should conduct cultural transformation, eliminate gender discrimination, and disseminate positive concepts of marriage and family.
