The paper introduces the basic types for the expansion and contraction devices of the expressways and bridges, analyzes the reasons for the damages on the expansion and contraction joints on bridges from the traffic loading, bridge maintenance, construction installation, and de-sign ,and illustrates the selection and maintenance replacement for the anchoring materials of the expansion and contraction devices, so as to pro-long the lifespan of the devices.
