论马来西亚槟城“客家百万富翁街”

Penang's Hakka Millionaires Row of Malaysia

槟城开埠之后,吸引了不少客商,他们不仅在这里大展商业宏图,也重视整合和壮大客家人在槟城的政经地位。19世纪末20世纪初张弼士号召客商一同在槟城的"莲花河"街购地建宅,打造一条集富贵和权势于一体的"客家百万富翁街"。在此,探讨客商在此条街一同建宅的背景和缘由,还原一代华人在马来亚的丰功业绩,以纪念客家先贤过去的荣光。

Hakka merchants had come to trade in Penang after it was established as a trading post. They contributed to the integration and growth of the Hakka people in Penang＇s political and economic status. During 19th century towards early 20th century, Cheong Fatt Tze persuaded other Hakka business associates to build together with him in ＇street of the lotus flowers＇ （Leith Street） as to make it a remarkable Hakka Millionaires Row. This study aims to review the historical background of the mansions built in this street and to commemorate great achievements of Chinese in Malaya and glory of the Hakka sages.
