The Meaning of “Rhythm of Poem” in Literary History

《诗的格律》是闻一多论述新诗艺术的一篇经典性评论,也是现代文学文体学有关诗的文体的重要文献,它与闻一多其他论述新诗的文献一起,既是对"五四"以来新诗创作的反思,也提出了迥异于传统诗词文体和当时新诗文体的一种新诗格律,对诗的文体做出了明确的界定。从某种意义上说,诗的格律是对新诗创作的一种规定,也是对诗的品格的美学要求,提出了新诗新的美学原则,重建文学新秩序,同时,也是以文体形式的创造与规定重塑民族精神的艺术探求。

The book The Rhythm of Poem which is not only a classical comment made by Wen Yiduo discussing the art of new poem, but also an important document on the style of poem in modern literary stylistics. The Rhythm of Poem, along with Wen Yiduo＇s other documents on new poem, rethinks the creation of new poem since the May 4th Movement, and puts forward a rhythm of new poem different from the styles of the traditional and new poem, giving a clear definition of the style of poem. In a sense, the rhythm of poem is not only a regulation of the creation of new poem, but also the aesthetic requirements on the character of poem, coming forward a new aesthetic principle for new poem and reconstructing a new literary system, at the same time, making an art exploration which intends to reconstruct the national spirit by means of the creation and regulation of literary form.
