On the Relationship of Themes and Contents to Modeling in Baoji Traditional Folk Art Performances

宝鸡传统社火多为静态造型艺术,它往往精心选取神话传说、历史故事、演义小说或者戏剧戏曲中的一个精彩场面,将其以静态造型的方式展现出来。观赏者可以从这种造型中体味出内容原意,感受到审美意蕴。一方面,题材内容决定了造型方式的选取;另一方面,造型需要限定了题材内容。题材内容和造型艺术之间有着相互影响、相互制约的辩证关系。

The traditional Baoji folk art performance is a static art, which tends to be carefully selected highlights of myths and legends, historical stories, novels and drama. These excellent scenes are demonstrated through static modeling. Viewers can appreciate the original meaning of the contents and feel the aesthetic implications. On the one hand, the themes and contents determine the choice of modeling methods; on the other hand, modeling needs to limit the content of the subject matter. There is a dialectical relationship between subject matter and modeling art which influences each other and restricts each other.
