从读者接受论谈《唐诗三百首》中数字的翻译方法——以许渊冲的英译为例

Translation Methods of Numerals in Three Hundred Tang Poems from the Perspective of Reader's Reception Theory——Based on the English Translation by Xu Yuanchong

文化背景不同,数字所代表的含义也有所区别。数字的翻译对于翻译学习者来说一直是一个难题。以许渊冲英译的《唐诗三百首》为研究对象,从读者接受论的角度分析诗中数字的翻译方法,包括直译、意译、省略和转换等四种译法,期望通过学习许教授在翻译数字时采取的方法,为翻译学习者提供一些参考。

Numerals stands for varied meanings in different cultures. Thus, it is a hard task to render these numerals into English. The paper takes the translated text of Three Hundred Tang Poems by Xu Yuanchong as an example. It discusses such four translation methods of numerals as literal translation, free translation, omission and conversion from the perspective of reader＇s reception theory. The aim is to provide some reference for translating learners through the translation methods adopted by Professor Xu when he was translating those numerals.
