摘要
根据20部译本的完全统计数据,理雅各一贯把中国宗教的至高神"帝"翻译成基督教的"God",译法明显不同于其他翻译家。理雅各的翻译实践受到了他的宗教融合理念的影响。理雅各宗教理念的形成,与其自然神学的背景、早期耶稣会士的索隐派传统、近代汉学研究的专业化转向有关。理雅各的翻译与宗教融合理念在当时虽饱受围攻,却有助于其在华基督教事业的发展。
As is evidenced by a complete statistical research on 20 translations, James Legge consistently translated the super- natural being of the highest ranking di (帝) in Confucian classics into the Christian term "God", which distinguished him from other translators. His translation is influenced by his syncretic attitudes towards religions, which originated in his natural theological ideas, the approach of figurism taken by Jesuits who came before him as well as the re-orientation of modem reli- gious research. Legge' s cyncretic attitude and his translation facilitated his enterprise of Christianity in China in spite of the vehement criticism from other missionaries.
