Complementary relationship between CDA and PDA——analysis of the coverage of " the approaching blizzard" in the U. S. A in China Daily and BBC News

结合批评语篇分析理论和系统功能语言学方法,对比分析China Daily和BBC News对美国"强暴风雪来临"报道的引语发现:China Daily报道内容呈现"威胁、被动、消极"特征,BBC News重视"和谐、积极、建构"主题。个人与集体主义、中美与英美关系导致的媒体偏见等社会语境造成了报道视角差异;这种差异呈现互补关系,同时使用批评话语分析与积极话语分析模式更能展现一个客观真实且带有美好蓝图的世界。

Based on the critical discourse analysis theory and functional grammar, the coverage of ＂the approaching blizzard＂ in the U. S. A in China Daily and BBC News is analyzed comparatively. The research shows that in terms of relationship between human beings and nature, individuals and institutions, the article presented by China Daily demonstrates the features of being ＂ threatening, passive and negative＂, while BBC News ＂harmonious, positive and constructive＂. The coverage difference is attributable to the social context involving the ideologies of individualism and collectivism and the media bias caused by Sino - American and Anglo - American relation- ship. The complementary relationship between CDA and PDA helps present a real world with a wonderful blueprint.
