Central Asia and the Western Regions, according to popular historical narratives, have long been regarded as objects of both world history and Chinese history, whereas discussion of their subjectivity has been too little. Such a unilateral narrative can neither call attention to the richness and complexity in history, nor can it help to construct shared historical memory, in the true sense, between both the frontier and the hinterland. This paper attempts to reconstruct a narrative framework of historical philosophy from a perspective of the continental empire through an overview of changes from the past to the present, so as to provide different ways in comprehending the history and reality.
