In stripes and patches, the sugarcane fields of China's subtropics are vast and far-reaching, the migrant workers moving from village to village, local farm to local farm, following the work, following the harvest. Where sugarcane is grown in China, they leave their footprints. In the harvest season, it is common at dawn and sunset to see small vehicles packed with farm workers going to and from the canelands. With early spring, the sugarcane harvest draws thousands of workers of Miao and Shui ethnicity from Guizhou, Hunan, and Guangxi southward to Leizhou in Guangdong province to work harvesting sugarcane on local fan,as.
