摘要
以历时和共时的语言观为主线,分三部分研究（主要是英语）语言中介命题（IP）的语义功能。探讨IP的特点和性质,从功能语法的角度对该语义现象作词汇层、句法层和语用功能分析。IP的概念属于一种语义现象,不仅对语言研究的互补择优、兼容并蓄起着积极的作用,而且对社会发展亦承载着深刻的现实意义。
This study examines, both diachronically and synchronically.the semantic function of intermediate proposition(IP)mainly concerning English, presenting that 1)the characteristics of IP, 2)the analysis of neutralized meaning at lexical, syntactic and pragmatic levels by the fundamental view of Functional Grammar, and 3) the significance of applying the concept of IP complementarity to the language research ,and to the social development as well.
