Body as a kind of cultural symbol has rich implications. In his novel Heart of Darkness, Conrad characterizes various eye-catching body images, linking which to Western colonization. Using his pen acutely, Conrad presents us with the dark and grim side of humanity by depicting the bodies seen as ugly ones in colonizers' eyes, the bodies disciplined by colonizers or colonizers' own bodies vulnerable to predicaments. Through body writing, Conrad not only accuses Western colonizers of their evilness, but also introspects the modern civilization which causes the potential damage to humanity.
