詹姆逊文化批评要"永远历史化":首先要发掘"缺场的原因",然后再纳入社会的视域,最后进入最广泛意义的历史领域,也就是文本变成社会文本的过程。社会形式诗学的理论有多个理论来源,"社会形式诗学论"是詹姆逊作为新马克思主义者的重要理论创新。但社会形式诗学具有明显的理论缺陷:许多概念范畴混杂,意义不够清晰;历史与文本的关系具有黑格尔的影子;批评过于政治化,以至于损害了文学批评应该有的审美性等等。

Jameson thinks that cultural criticism should be ＂forever historical＂： First of all, it is to explore the ＂the reason for history absence＂, then research into the social field and finally into historical field in the most broad sense. That is the process of turning the text into a social one. There are many theoretical sources of theory of the social form of poetics. Social form of poetics is an important theoretical innovation for Jameson as a new Marxist. However, social form of poetics has obvious theoretical shortcomings： many conceptual categories are mixed and the meanings are not clear enough, the relationship between history and the text bears Hegel＇ s shadow, and too politicized, that it damages the aesthetic quality that literary criticism should contain.
