Music governing was an important part of the ancient politics. Of the past dynasties, scholar-bureaucrat＇s pursuit of Gagaku in the Northern Song Dynasty was very typical because of the complex. Through exploration of Chao Lizhao and Yuan Yi＇s pursuit of Gagaku, specific methods of examination for a generation of scholar-bureaucrat in the Northern Song Dynasty were discovered, which shows the whole process from the beginning to the ended failure the changes of literati and officialdom. From the pursuit of ancient music to accepting the folk music, we can also understand their Gagaku complex.
