In the information age, analyzing design rules from computational perspective is the inevitable direction of urban design. As a significant outcome of computational science, shape grammar is suitable for designers to understand the generation process of urban texture via graphical thinking. The author discusses the implementation of urban texture generation shape grammar via top-down and bottom-up methods, and develops parametric tools to explore urban design process.
