Objective To explore the correlation of parenting stress with mental resilience and self-esteem among caregivers of children with cerebral palsy. Methods General Information Questionnaire (GIQ),Parenting Stress Index-Short Form(PSI-SF),Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC)and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES)were adopted to conduct the questionnaires among 174 caregivers of children with cerebral palsy. Results The means of PSI-SF scores were 127.56±25.73,and the PSI-SF scores of 157 caregivers (90.23%)were higher than 90.The parenting stress of those caregivers was significantly different in the level of education status, family economic status, disabled grades, and sense of discrimination (P〈0.05 ),but it was not significantly different between gender and between the urban and rural residents (P〉0.05 ).The parenting stress of cerebral palsy children′s caregivers was negatively correlated with mental resilience and self-esteem respectively (P〈0.01).The self-esteem, education status, economic status, sense of discrimination and the strength dimension of mental resilience have predicative effects on parenting stress, and their overall contribution rate was 50%.Conclusion The parenting stress of cerebral palsy children′s caregivers is relatively great and closely correlated with mental resilience and self-esteem,but it can be alleviated by enhancing the caregivers′self-esteem and resilience strength, improving their family economic status, and reducing their sense of discrimination.
