德福关系问题与人生观、价值观紧密相关,德福统一是儒学的基本主张。儒家的德、福观念有其特定含义,与之相应的德福统一路径则涉及现实层面的人际关系、王道政治和超越层面的天道性命。儒家的德福统一论为中国传统社会提供了基本的价值信念系统。现代新儒家融合中、西文化对德福统一论作了新的阐发,但其渊源于传统儒学的基本信念系统仍有待于在变化的社会生活中重新奠基。
