The research of Gu Yan-wu is the starting point of Chen Zu-wu＇s academic life. In the aspect of Gu＇s life, he clarified many doubtful points and made some reasonable speculations based on authentic historical materials. In the aspect of Gu＇s academy, he pointed out that Gu＇s theory had broken the limit of Cheng Zhu and Lu Wang, his philosophy was fragmentary but systematic, the particularity of his political ideas was the anxiety of the nation and common people, his historical status lied in initiating new style of study, demonstrating new academic method and strong social responsibility. Mr. Chen＇s matter-of-fact attitude and initiative spirit also set an example for the academic circle.
