In view of the lack of design data,traffic inconvenience and terrain complexity of highway in mountainous areas, the preliminary design research requires some open geographic information data. Google Earth software contains a large number of geo-elevation data and satellite film,which is a free and open data platform,this article mainly introduced the specific application of Google Earth software in the pre-design of mountainous highway such as collection of early geographical data, production of topographic maps,and modeling,which can help to improve the design efficiency and design quality.
