The Historical Activities of the Northwest Art & Culture Survey Group under the Ministry of Education at Dunhuang

西北艺术文物考察团成立于1940年6月,解散于1944年12月。1942年6月至1943年5月间,该团在敦煌进行石窟内容调查、壁画临摹、照片拍摄、购买文物等活动。本文主要考证考察团至敦煌的时间、在此考察的成员及其活动,纠正一些回忆录、口述历史的错误。

The Northwest Art ＆ Culture Survey Group was founded in July 1940 and disbanded in Decem- ber 1944. The group carried out a series of activities at Dunhuang, including investigating the contents of the caves, copying murals, photographing the caves, and purchasing cultural relics. This paper presents a textual study on when the Group arrived at Dunhuang and what they have done and corrects some errors found in memoirs and oral history.
