This study aimed to explore the relationship between grit and depression and the mediated effect of self -esteem in the relationship in adolescences. A sample of 766 junior middle school students completed the Grit Scale, the self - Esteem Scale, and CES -D Self-Reported Depression Scale. Results ： Grit was correlated with depression and self-esteem partially mediated the association between grit and depression in adolescences. Grit of adolescences can make a direct prediction to depression, and also has an indirect effect to it through self- esteem.
