葛浩文英译《废都》策略研究

Study on Howard Goldblatt's Translation Strategy of Ruined City

葛浩文1991年英译了贾平凹的《浮躁》,时隔25年,他又翻译了贾平凹最具争议的小说《废都》。葛浩文的翻译使莫言、贾平凹等作家的作品在英语世界得到传播并获得好评。通过对《废都》译本Ruined City中具体语料翻译方法的描述性研究,为贾平凹和中国现当代其他文学作品"走出去"提供策略。对Ruined City中翻译语料的考查结果表明,葛浩文的译本以忠实为原则,对原作中的文化意象、语言风格等采取增译、减译、音译和直译等方法予以再现。这些翻译方法对传播中国文学有一定的借鉴作用。

Jia Pingwa＇s Turbulence was translated by Howard Goldblatt inl991 and he translated Jia＇s most controversial novel Feidu twenty five years later. Mo Yan, Jia Pingwa and many other Chinese writers＇ works are read by the world readers with Howard Goldblatt’ s translation. By probing on the translating corpus in Ruined City with descriptive research, this research tends to seek trans-lation strategies to the ＂going out＂ of Jia Pingwa＇s works and other contemporary literary works in China. It turns out that Howard Goldblatt＇s translation principle in Ruined City is faithfulness, and the cultural images, linguistic characters are reproduced in the tar-get language with addition, omission, transliteration and literal translation. Therefore, the above mentioned translation methods can be applied in the translation of Chinese literature.
