On the Year Zhang Jiuling Passed the Highest Level of Imperial Examination

张九龄进士中举时间,新旧唐书张九龄本传无明确记载。历来主要有长安二年说、景龙元年说。今人又提出神功元年说,三说各有影响。本文追根寻源,梳理三说来源,进行考辨,指出景龙元年说和神功元年说致误之由,确定张九龄长安二年中进士举之说证据来源最为可靠,可为定论。

The year when Zhang Jiuling became a Jinshi, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination, was not recorded clearly in the historical books of the Tang Dynasty. Historians hold three different opinions as whether Zhang passed the imperial examination in the Second Year of Chang＇an（702 A.D.）, the First Year of Jinglong（707A.D.） or the First Year of Shengong（697 A.D.）. After a careful study on the three opinions and an arduous research on various reference books, this paper made a conclusion that the exact year should be the Second Year of Chang＇an（702 A.D.）.
