A Tentative Discussion on Chinese Women Participating in Governmental Diplomacy

传统意义上,外交一般是指国家或政府的行为,指政府间的外交。政府外交特指以国家、政府为主体的,以维护本国国家利益为最终目的,具有官方的、正式的国家外交资格的对外交涉或交往活动。从商王朝至今,妇女一直扮演着重要角色,她们在国家主要机构中担任职务,发挥聪明才智,积极推动了中国外交工作的发展。当然,中国妇女参与政府外交还存在一些问题,需要在强化性别平等意识、促进社会性别主流化方面做出更大努力。

In traditional sense,diplomacy refers to the state or governmental activities,which take place between governments. With the state or the government taking the major role,intergovernmental diplomacy particularly refers to the activities dealing with foreign affairs authorized by the authorities,whose end is to safeguard that country's own interests. Ever since the Shang Dynasty,Chinese women have been taking an active part in the governmental diplomacy,vigorously advancing China's progress in history. This paper sorts out Chinese women's history of participating in foreign exchanges based on historic events,collects and analyzes the data of women appointed to the posts in the state's major organs,and points out and addresses the major problems of women participating in governmental diplomacy.
