区域史与文化史的融合,是区域社会经济史研究的新突破。苏州评弹作为苏州地方曲艺的代表,在近代整个吴语地区广泛流行,其艺术特点在于老少皆宜、雅俗共赏,与区域经济、文化、人群发生了广泛的联系,是区域社会经济史研究重要线索之一。由于评弹在近当代吴语区域的重要作用,引起一批海外学者的关注,马克·本德尔《梅竹:中国传统苏州评弹》是目前为止海外研究评弹的代表作,其系统介绍了评弹的历史、表演的形式和所用的理论方法,他认为评弹表演中艺术的"转换",是评弹表演的魅力所在。

The integration of regional history and cultural history is a new breakthrough in the study of re-gional social and economic history. Pingtan is a representative of Suzhou local folk art, which is widely popularin the whole Wu language area in modem times. Its artistic characteristics are all ages and tastes, and it hasbeen widely connected with regional economy, culture and people. It is one of the important clues in the studyof regional social and economic history. Due to the important role of Pingtan in the contemporary Wu languageregion, it has attracted the attention of a group of overseas scholars. ＂ Plum and Bamboo： China＇s SuzhouChantefable Tradition＂ which written by Mark Bender is the representative work of overseas study about Ping-tan so far. The book introduces the history of Pingtan, the performance mode and the theoretical method used, and Mark Bender believes that the ＂shifting＂ of art is the charm of the performance of the show.
