《儒林外史》中许多情节都取材于笑话集。小说中植入许多笑话,虽然使小说有了许多笑点,却也削弱了它的讽刺意义。作为讽刺小说的《儒林外史》其实有较多谴责小说的特点。所以《儒林外史》时时呈现出"笔无藏锋"的特点。

Many episodes of the Scholars are based on jokes. There are many jokes in the novel, althoughthe novel has a lot of laughter, but the irony has been weakened. As a satirical novel, the Scholars has ob-tained more characteristics of the condemning novel. Therefore, the Scholars always shows the feature of shal-lowness.
