Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film Silence is based on the religion-theme novel written by Shusaku Endo, a Japanese Catholic writer. In the film and the novel, both artist employed various means to review the Catholic father's view of the holy landscape--the sea, meanwhile, it was echoed by seeing "silence of sea" as the "silence of God". With a reference to the history of spreading of Christianity in Japan, the holy landscape and martyrdom in the adaption of "literature-film", and the function of landscape in the artistic works which is analyzed from the perspective of humanistic geography, it can be concluded that the construction of holy landscape plays the role of communication between heterogeneous cultures.
