Toshima Ecomusee Town:An Interpretative Reading of the Government Office and Residence Complex at Tokyo Ikebukuro Sub-center District

This paper introduces the recently completed Toshima Ecomusee Town complex,viewing it as a start-up project of a series of actions to upgrade whole Ikebukuro sub-center district.The redevelopment project,taken 12 years from initial idea to complete with all relevant parties involved,combines government offices,apartments,shops,public space and a 3D garden all into the complex building,and provides a new image and new types of communal spaces to the district.
