大学具有人才培养、科学研究、社会服务、文化传承创新等重要功能。要实现大学的功能,就需要确保大学基本功能正常运行。高校园林的建设规划呈现出以华西协和大学等传教士在本土创办的教会学校为范式的"中西融合型"高校园林、以湖南大学等传统继承型园林和"北京八大院"等高校为例的开放园林型高校园林。利用园林的建筑、植物群落、水体、雕塑小品、道路等园林因素可实现高校教学、办公、生活等功能分区的物质与精神表达,促进高校各分区功能的实现。

Universities have important functions such as personnel training, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage and innovation. To realize the function of a university, it is necessary to ensure the normal operation of the basic functions of the university. The garden construction plan will show a ＂Chinese and Western blended＂ university garden with missionary school founded by the missionaries from West China Union University in the mainland as paradigms, traditional inheritance type garden such as Hunan University and the open garden garden like ＂Beijing Eight Academy＂. The use of landscape architecture, plant communities, water bodies, sculpture, sketches, roads and other garden factors can realize the the material and spiritual expression on teaching, office, living and other functional areas, and promote the realization of the functions of colleges and universities.
